Live Music Picks in New Orleans: New Year’s Eve and Beyond
How to live it up with live music on New Year’s Eve in New Orleans and into 2019.
Monday, December 31st
It’s all about the DJ sets this NYE! The following happenings should be a great way to dance the last dregs of the year away:
DJ Ann Glaviano hosts the rock n’ soul dance party of your dreams at beloved Mid-City hybrid cocktail bar/dive Twelve Mile Limit.
Bywater mainstay Bud Rip’s hosts vinyl connoisseurs Vivi and The Inspector for a second NYE, spinning post-punk, Italo disco, dark wave, and more obscurities.
And if you’re trying to see live music:
Self-described “party machine” Bouffant Bouffant + electro event producers Trax Only are throwing a warehouse rager for the Downtown crowd. Pre-sale tickets are gone forever, but you can get in at the door if you’re early/lucky.
Curler-donning feminist rapper Boyfriend is putting on what is sure to be a high-energy set tonight at One Eyed Jacks.
Lastly, if you’re just in it for the late-night drinks with friends:
The Rooftop Bar at the Catahoula is open from 6pm – 1am tonight!
Tuesday, January 1st
Hungover as sin and not going to the Sugar Bowl game? Mia Borders and Jesse Morrow at Three Muses might help you perk up.
Wednesday, January 2nd
Go on a classy spin around on the Carousel Bar and catch the James Martin Band.
Thursday, January 3rd
How often can you say you’re going to see a band that plays Transylvanian dance music? See Csiga Biga doing just that at Siberia Lounge with support from Greek/Balkan folk band the G String Orchestra.
Friday, January 4th
Dive bar country + swing dancing at BJ’s Lounge from Gal Holiday and Sabertooth Swing. Bring your dancin’ shoes.
Saturday, January 5th
Daria and the Hip Drops play a set at Three Keys before DJ Soul Sister’s Hustle set takes over the building.
Sunday, January 6th
Finish out the week with New Orleanian staple Kermit Ruffins + the BBQ Swingers at the now-Galactic-owned Tipitina’s.
